- Dark Shroud is a strong early-game defensive option for players while they get better gear and defensive legendary items.
The Rogue is looking to be one of the best classes in Season 5 of Diablo 4. There are a variety of builds that players can tun with Rogue thanks to buffs, new legendary and unique changes. So, if you intend to play as one, here’s a closer look at a Rogue levelling build in Season 5 of Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 Season 5 Rogue levelling build: Barrage build
The Barrage skill is great for a Diablo 4 Rogue levelling build for Season 5. You will find that they do a lot of damage, can kite easily, and will make effective farmers. RTogues also come with tonnes of mobility, making their clear speeds for Dungeon farms, Helltides, and Hellbreaches even easier. Here’s a look at the skills you want to run.
Skill | Rank | Modifiers |
Puncture | 1 | Enhanced, Fundamental |
Barrage | 5 | Enhanced, Advanced |
Dash | 1 | Enhanced, Methodical |
Shadow Step | 1 | Enhanced, Disciplined |
Dark Shroud | 5 | Enhanced, Subverting |
Shadow Imbuement | 1 | Enhanced, Blended |
The general idea behind the build is that you will be using Dash, and Shadow Steps as movement skills to improve your kill speed. Their upgraded talents also grant extra stacks, stuns and crit chance improvements too. These go in handy for your Puncture that applies Vulnerable, allowing the Rogue to get some solid damage multipliers rolling on their Barrage attacks for your burst to reach its potential. You then want to combo with talents like:
- Sturdy x1 – 6% Close damage reduction
- Siphoning Strikes x2 – Lucky Hit: Critical strikes against Close enemies have up to an 85% chance to heal for 2% of your max life.
- Weapon Mastery x3: Gain a bonus when attacking with the weapons. 21% increased damage to Healthy enemies with daggers. Swords grant 9% increased damage. Bows grant 12% more to Vulnerable enemies. And Crossbows deal 15% increased Crit Strike damage.
- Exploit x3: 18% increased damage to Healthy Targets and Injured enemies
- Malice x3: You deal 12% increased damage to Vulnerable or knocked down enemies.
- Shadow Crash x1: Lucky Hit: Shadow Damage has up to a 10% chance to stun for 0.5 seconds.
- Consuming Shadows x2: Each time you kill an enemy with Shadow damage, you generate 20 Energy.
- Precision Damage x3: Imbued Skills gain a 9% increased crit strike chance.
- Adrenaline Rush x1: While moving, you gain 5% increased Energy Regeneration.
- Haste x3: While at above 50% maximum Energy, gain 15% Movement Speed. While below 50%, you gain 15% Attack Speed.
- Impetus x3: After moving 15 meters, your next core or Ultimate Attack deals 24% increased damage. While the damage bonus remains, your Agility and Subertfuge Skills deal increased damage.
- Precision: Each Marksman Skill cast gains 1 Stack of Precision or 2 if it is a critical hit. When you reach 4 stacks your next Marksman core skill or ultimate is guaranteed to crit for an additional 50% crit damage. The damage is further increased by an amount equal to 15% of your crit strike damage modifier.
We strongly advise getting the passives in the Imbuement section first. Follow it up with the Marskman keycap passive, and then the ultimate passives. You can then gain the defensiveness closer to level 50, and the Vulnerable and crit modifiers as you later level.
With your spare points, feel free to take points in Poison Imbue. It should help for bonus boss killing damage with some passives for it too. You may need to do this when taking on the capstone dungeon for World Tier 2.
Rogue levelling build – Gear
Now when it comes to gearing you ideally want to have the legendaries in your following gear slots. Most of these are random gear drops, so make sure to run enough dungeons, and Helltides and treasure goblins to get a chance at the legendary aspect you want for the levelling build. Most of the core legendary aspects to your build are acquired via dungeons and made through crafting, which should make the Barrage and basic defensive aspects easy enough to acquire.
As for stats, you should also aim for crit strike chance and crit strike damage stats on your gear where possible for synergy with your keystone passive. Don’t forget when you unlock your specialisation, you want to use combo points for the burst that Barrage provides.
Slot | Legendary Aspect | Effects | Source |
Helm | Aspect of Might | Basic Skills grant Damage Reduction. | Campaign in the Dry Steppes |
Chest | Umbrous Aspect | Lucky Hit: Critical Strikes have a chance to grant a free Dark Shroud. | Random drops |
Gloves | Aspect of Elements | Gain increased damage to a set of damage types for 7 seconds. This effect alternates between fire lightning and physical, and then cold, poison and shadow. | Drops |
Pants | Juggeraut’s Aspect | Gain armour, but your evade has a 100% increased cooldown. | Drops |
Boots | Aspect of Slaughter | You gain a 20% movement speed bonus. You lose this bonus for several seconds whenever you take damage. | Drops |
Amulet | Aspect of Branching Volleys | Increase the damage of arrows that ricochet from Barrage to 50-80%. Barrage’s arrows have a 30-60% chance to split into 2 arrows when they ricochet. | Shadowed Plunge – Hawezar |
Ring 1 | High Velocity Aspect | Barrage arrows now pierce through 1 enemy. Barrage has increased attack speed. | Drops |
Ring 2 | Rapid Aspect | Basic skills gain 15-30% attack speed. | Buried Halls – Dry Steppes |
Weapon 1 | Aspect of the Expectant | After attacking enemies with Basic Skill, increase the damage of your next Core Skill within 5 seconds by an amount, up to 30% | Underoot – Scosglen |
Weapon 2 | Edgemaster’s Aspect | Skills deal up to 5-20% increased damage based on your Primary Resource when cast, receiving the maximum benefit while you have full Primary resource. | Oldstones – Scosglen |
Ranged Weapon | Aspect of Pestillient Points | Every third cast of Punctue applies Poison imbuement with increased potency than normal. | Drops |
With the main skills, passives and aspects outlined, this should help you get to level 50 and enter World Tier 3. For the most part, the build can continue to level you through the 50-70 legion before uniques and even better legendaries start dropping. So, feel free to run this build for the course of your character’s late-game gearing. Good luck with the grind.
If you’re lucky with the reputation rewards, you may find the unique ring, Writhing Band of Trickery is a great item to use. This makes your Subterfuge skills leave behind a taunting trap that lures enemies in. This can make your survivability and mobbing even better as your barrage can easily ricochet.
The above item table is list of ideal uses of all legendary slots on your gear. Some legendary affixes may drop in other slots, but that’s fine too. Ideally, your cor Barrage skills should be on gear slots that grant the full 100% bonus for the legendary affix.
